Frequently asked questions
macOS says devkit.app "can't be opened" or is damaged.
This prerelease is not notarized yet. Run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/devkit.app once, or Control-click the app in Finder and choose Open.
The app can't find docker, php, composer or git.
The app reads your login shell's PATH once at launch. Make sure the tools work in a new terminal window, then quit and reopen the app. Run Run doctor from the menu to see what is missing.
Do I need Docker?
Yes. devkit uses your Docker Compose stack for the database, Redis and, for HTTPS sites, Caddy and PHP-FPM. Docker Desktop, OrbStack, Colima and native Docker all work.
Which PHP versions are supported?
Any PHP on your machine. devkit scans the Homebrew locations on macOS and the usual distro paths on Linux, and you can add your own in the PHP section or with devkit php scan-paths add. By default a site uses the php on your PATH.
Will devkit change my .env file?
Yes. On every start it renders the site's .env from its template so it points at the stack's database and Redis. The original is saved as ~/.config/devkit/backups/<site>/env.orig, and the previous one as env.prev.
Can devkit delete my work?
Only when you ask it to, and it checks first. site delete and lane rm refuse while there are uncommitted changes or unpushed commits unless you pass --force, and they need --yes. The apps show what would be lost and ask again just before acting. site delete --trash moves the folder to the Trash instead of deleting it.
Does devkit collect any data?
No. There is no account, no analytics and no telemetry. Everything stays on your machine. See the Privacy Policy.
How do I connect Claude Code, Cursor or another agent?
Run devkit mcp config <agent> for the exact setup, or use the MCP section of the macOS app. The supported setups are claude-code, codex, gemini, cursor, vscode, claude-desktop and other.
How do I uninstall devkit?
See Uninstall in the guide. Your sites, stacks and databases are not touched.
